Tonight, steeped in sorrow,
I looked up at the stars,
Like those before me,
I saw your splendor,
Like David, the work of your hands,
Brought your praises to my lips.
I remembered your promise to Abraham,
That his descendants would be as numerous.
Tonight I wept for the vileness,
Of those who claim to worship you,
I wept for those who died,
Because the vile believe it pleases you.

Tonight, my eyes are the eyes,
Of the many who looked at the skies,
And testified to your glory,
My eyes were the eyes of Jesus,
Wandering in the desert at night,
And praising and worshiping you,
My heart was one with those who drank,
Under the taverns of these skies,
Deeply from the cup of your merciful Love,
And intoxicated by your goodness,
Sang songs of you to the desert sands,
Their hands doing the good of your hands.

Tonight in the silence I heard,
Miriam’s cries for her son crucified,
By the brutal inhumanity of a few,
Campaigning for religious kingdoms on Earth,
Who extinguish the light of God’s love,
Plunging this world into the darkness of fear,
Who attest that God is great in one breath,
And in other extinguishing the breath of his creation.
Open your hearts to the God of Abraham,
Who is Loving and Merciful,
Trust the Lord as he did, implicitly,
Without foolish notions of earthly kingdoms.
