If Only

If only, I could sleep the quiet sleep,
Of the child I once was,
When my great joy and happiness,
Of being in your presence,
Shone through the veils of dreams,
And, my face broke into smiles,
And, peals of joy on silent nights.

If only I could visit you once more,
On the vistas of love to be with you,
But, I have wandered your world,
I have looked for delight in teashops,
And found it fleeting as the tea in the cup,
We turn the cup over after we are done,
So the tea leaves, may be read by none.

Those who seek their destiny,
To know, be known, and be the knowing,
Are like rushing white waters, flowing,
Surrounding everything, everywhere it goes,
Murmuring, roaring, crashing in a show,
And, on the rising sprays, brief rainbows we see,
While the river continues its way on to the sea.

In my wanderings, I have tarried
In places, and some left me harried.
I have looked for you in all those places,
And in the fleeting and dinner faces,
Thinking, perhaps, I would see you in their smile,
I stayed and we talked whiles awhile,
But, none brought back my innocence smiles.

Then I went to the poor of humanity,
And in the midst of faces wide as the sea,
In the midst of grime, sickness and crime,
And, a society wrapped in soul searing slime,
I found you, doing what you always do,
Shining like the sun unconditionally,
Offering your love to everyone.

Amidst the morose and disposed,
Are some that are deposed and overdosed,
On the bitters of greed, hatred and prejudice,
A class of people that exist subjudice,
Awaiting sentencing by robed princes of power,
For the hustling, laziness, lack of learning and time,
But, it is only you that know their souls sublime.

If I could only in the awakening,
Of my awakening, be with you,
Talking with you, doing the things friends do,
Stand in the presence of your eternal light,
Doing in love what is just and right,
And, while awake, smile as innocence smiles in sleep,
If only that moment I could, forever keep.
