Bhikshu

I lift my bowl this morning,
Begging for your graces.
As I walk through my Samsara,
Wearing this loaned stardust robe,
My cupped palms overflow with your love and mercy.

I see suffering around me,
And beg may it never hurt me,
I wrap myself with amulets,
Of acquisitions and accomplishments,
As armor against the pain of suffering.

Many share the journey with me,
Suffering with those who suffer,
Becoming poor as the poor,
Practicing charity and compassion,
As others pursue greed and oppression.

Some lift the downtrodden,
While others uplift the fallen,
I pray let me be the one who builds,
Rest houses in the wastelands,
Where the lost tarry and are refreshed.

Let your light in us guide those who wander,
Pondering the dark night of their souls,
To awaken at a daybreak as this one,
When Bhikshus beg for your love and mercy,
And joyfully share your blessings with many.
