Lunchtime Contemplation – Laban

In this yogurt cup, labelled peach,
Are sunny orchards under blue skies,
And cloudy, grey, tempestuous days,
And the shawls of changing seasons.
Oilscaped dappled cows graze in fields,
Summer hay tossed in winter barns,
Milk cows, grass and harvested fruits.

Locked in this cup are the visions,
Of buzzing bees and birds in trees,
The fruit being picked, the cows being milked,
And men in factories that produce,
Cases of yogurt labelled peach,
Caused by your grace and provision,
I am fed, nourished and sustained.

What color is my skin and eyes?
What is the language of my tribes?
What’s the latitude of your vibes?
I am human, Will that suffice?
Accreted by the passing years,
Memories like pearls grow in our minds,
Becoming a hungry yearning,
For a yogurt cup, labelled peach.

Charlie Bottle's passion is poetry. He has lived on three continents, speaks five languages and loves different cultures, people, music and food. He believes that "Poetry uses the economy of words to express the essence of our humanity." It is this magical use of brevity to express the profound that drew him to poetry. While his professional and personal life has pulled him in different directions, He continues in his discipleship of the craft and writes whenever the muse moves him. While English is his second language it is the language in which he lives, breathes, thinks and writes poetry.
